the backyard sessions 2018

Urban Life present The Backyard Sessions – a series of FREE music events for the community featuring international award-winning acts as well as local emerging artists. Taking place in the neoteric Backyard, just off Civic Place near Eastland in the Ringwood arts precinct, this series of chilled, semi-acoustic events will include the award-winning Jetty Road, Lil’ Miss Jazz and vocal group Soul. Food and drinks by The Cellar Door Ringwood.

Gates open 5.30pm. Concerts start 6.00pm. Enter via Civic Place.

Soul is a diverse vocal group who sing pop, funk, Jazz, R’n’B and more. Comprised of vocalists Asinate, Manu, Hilary, Madi and Julienne with guitarist Calvin, Soul have performed at a range of public and private events in the 4 years that they have been together – including The Long Walk at Federation Square and Live At Town Square. They will also feature this year at the 2017 Maroondah Festival.

Cindy van der Ree (Lil’ Miss Jazz) is an accomplished performer, singer and songwriter. Her second album, ‘Some Kind of Beautiful’, has seen Cindy settle well into the jazz genre. Cindy’s voice charms the soul and her easy swing-style performances have seen her become sought after for corporate, public and private performances including regular gigs at Crown Casino and Jazz Twilights Program at The Botanical Gardens.

The Melbourne-based trio Paula and Lee Bowman (Identical Twins) and Julian Sammut are Jetty Road. They have a sound described as a tapestry of pop and country, with a hint of folk. Imagine The Corrs, Fleetwood Mac and The Dixie Chicks with a unique Australian flavour. Jetty Road is a band with a story to tell. Their 2015 Album Hearts On Fire has firmly reinforced the band’s status as one of the premiere acts in Australian Country Music.

Jetty Road have played alongside the cream of country music including Taylor Swift, Alan Jackson, Brooks & Dunn, Tim McGraw, Kenny Chesney, Vince Gill, Gretchen Wilson, Dwight Yoakam and Glen Campbell.

The trio has a multitude of awards and accolades with two Golden Guitars (CMAA), an APRA Award nomination, five Southern Star Independent Artist of Australia Awards and 10 number one charting songs to their name.
